P A I K E A…!
The basics…!
Name: Paikea
Age: Forty Years... Fairly young, still.
Gender: Stallion
Species: Pegasus
Special abilities?: Clairvoyant - strongly impressionable to the past, present and future of other beings. Recieves visions through physical contact with other beings. Not very strong, but can be overwhelming. What is on the outside…!
Breed: Pegasus
Coat color: Dark Bluish Black
Strange markings?: Gold bands on side of nose, legs, hindquarters. Eyes rimmed with gold, tips of mane and tail gold.
Appearance: His pelt is near-black, the gold in it glimmering and very recognizable. His wings are the same, but the secondary and flight feathers are as white as snow, as is the stripe down his long muzzle. His eyes are an arresting gray, shimmering with light. He is not particularly tall at 5.2 hands, but he is well-built. His bones are light to aid in flight, and easily broken. He is not a powerhouse fighter, not does he like to resort to such petty means. His mane and tail are long and luxuriant, somehow free of knots and nags. Paikea is a creature of speed, more flight than fight. He loves to run and to fly, every movement graceful and swift as a deer. His voice is soft, with a touch of woodsong behind it, and a good deal of wilderness in the slightly accented words. His head is always held high, his feet well off the ground when he walks, giving the impression of superiority.Look a little deeper…!
Likes: The sky, wind, peace, charitibility, company, flight, other animals (particularly birds), herd life, wilderness, woodland, sunlight, barley.
Dislikes: Predators (including those of his own species), bloodshed, being underground, death, foolishness, ignorance, battle.
Fears: Being buried alive. EXTREMELY claustrophobic. Also fears snakes and other reptiles.
Wants: Mostly, to survive and thrive. He promotes collective effort towards a better world, but believes death and warfare are inevitable. At the moment, he avoids worldly desires. His chief goal is to settle down somehwere where he can fly all he wants, and to be free from desire and greed.
Goal?: Eventually, to find a mate and have foals. All things will come in their season, and he knows, in a way beyond knowing, that things will come clear eventually.
Personality: Paikea is akin to early monks, an ascetic and introvert, far from society to delve deeper within himself. He attempts unselfishness and to eliminate envy and greed, but is far from successful. He attempts saint-like patience and calm to no avail. He is far too brash and outspoken for his peaceful ideas, far too forceful and thinking too much of himself to truly be at peace. He seeks after some great destiny without knowing what it is, walks on some great path without seeing much beyond his own visions. His ability to see things as they were and could be marrs his visions of the here and now.
Within himself, he is conflicted constantly over moral decisions. He
has a natural capacity for ruthlessness paired with a great desire to avoid this. His moral compass is hard for him to read, and his own values are nearly lost under a coating of mud and filth and all the teachings that he has ever had. He is confused and almost childishly innocent because of this. In fact, his whole personality is a little bit naive, though startlingly profound at times. He is distracted and lackadaisical, shirking duty when he has it out of no fault of his own. He has trouble with time, it seems to fly right out from under him or move too slowly around him.
He finds great solace in flight, and loves nothing so much as to clear his head with a blast of the sea breeze or a launch from precipice or mountaintop. He can be frustrating to talk too, often getting off topic or distracted by some thought, but nonetheless he is of notable insight and intellect. He is among the greatest of tacticians and plans with a view towards the long term rather than the short term. Although fiarly indecisive, once he's made up his mind he rarely shifts opinion or adjusts to allow for new variables, and this can lead him to carelessness.
Touchingly loyal once his trust is gained, Paikea is one of the least likely to betray a friend or his own herd. He has a profound respect for a good leader, and would follow a wise man (or woman) to the ends of the Earth. It is only when those above him are careless, ignorant, or downright terrible leaders that he shirks and complains and fights as hard as he can to being them down. He does not stand for fools, and his teeth are quicker than his brain when he meets one. He values loyalty and honesty above all things, and does hold a grudge when tampered with.My Criminal background…!
History: He was born to a loner band, a tribe of ruffians and raiders and of great disruption and deceit. His father was the leader of the ruthless clan, leading great attacks on great herds and those who have now fallen into dust, and Paikea was the son who he hoped would take his place as conquerer and be as bloodthirsty as himself. So, from the day he was born, Paikea was shaped and trained into an animal hardened with bloodlust, ready to kill and be killed all for the sake of power. Even as a weanling he was ruthless, killing rabbits and any other small animal that crossed his path, too young to know anything but what he was taught. And all he knew was hate and a desire for great power.
When he was a two-year-old, however, everything changed. His father was killed in a raid, unexpectedly and through means of a great trap. The band was taken over by another horse, since Paikea was far too young for such power, and the foal himself was driven out of the lands and into the barren wasteland surrounding. Far too young to survive in such a clime and with little to eat or drink and no knowledge of the land itself, Paikea nearly died. Finally, he collapsed, on the verge of starvation and death. He was found by a roving band of monk-light horses, dedicated to peace and freedom from the material world. They saved his life and took him in.
Grateful for this, Paikea tried his hardest to fit in among them, to emulate and become like them. But the lessons of his early life were too strong within him. He was too attuned to attack, to kill, to draw blood, and although he tried and tried and tried he could not give up the visions of power that had danced before his eyes. He lived with the band for a full four years, but eventually left, disappointed and lonesome, to go on a journey of his own thorugh the wilderness. Fueled by wanderlust and not understanding his own thoughts, he wandered off into the woods and flew for miles and miles across a blue ribbon of sky, following some distant cloud.
For twelve years he roved and wandered, seeing pain and glee and not understanding or living a bit of it. He became apart from the equine world, from the ebb and flow of the herd, an observer and a silent ghost travelling the lands. His views changed. It was during this period that his clairvoyancy developed and became more finely tuned. Contact with another horse, even for the most fleeting of moments, could give him insight into the future and the past of that horse. He saw ghosts to be made and foals to be born. He saw bloodshed and death. And he learned, he did. He learned that the horse is by nature ruthless and petty, but that some had the contraint and will to overcome it. He yearned to do so.
At the age of twenty the distant memory of herd life drew him back in, and he became one of the Swinica kingdom, a shaman and a storyteller although he was young and still is. His insight and wisdome gave him his position, and he loves nothing so much as to be useful to the alliance. But, as of late, a discontent has been rising within him, a feeling that he is only pretending to be the wise and kind and insightful. A feeling that he is missing something, something key to his future and, eventually, his destiny... And, always, lurking behind every word there is the evil foal, himself, the killer and the iron-hooved leader...
